Unique Solutions

The mission of Ability Housing is to provide quality, affordable community based housing with an emphasis on adults with disabilities and others challenged by homelessness.

We are a highly efficient and effective grassroots nonprofit.  90% of all expenditures are spent directly on our programs - providing quality housing to families with extremely limited incomes.  How Donations Are Used

Ability Housing is the only organization in our community focused on addressing the affordable rental housing needs of Jacksonville's residents; most especially persons with disabilities and families challenged b homelessness in need of VERY affordable housing.  The Need.

“We believe that Ability Housing is a valuable asset to the Jacksonville community as the only local, private organization with the mission and focus to develop, own and manage affordable, permanent rental housing to serve families with incomes between 20 and 50 percent of area median income. This market of housing is very difficult to develop, requires very specific skill sets, and takes determined leadership to pull together federal, state and local resources to make rental housing truly affordable. Ability Housing has pulled together an astute team – from board members to staff – that together are showing impressive results. We predict that over the next five years, Ability Housing will be a leader in this industry, not just in Jacksonville, not just in the state, but will be recognized nationally for their strength and accomplishment in this arena.”

- Joni Foster, Jacksonville LISC

Ability Housing provides two unique housing programs to the Jacksonville community, Villages and CASA.  The focus of each is to provide high quality, affordable housing with positive impacts on each resident, the neighborhood and the broader community.  Housing Development

"Ability Housing is one of the City’s premier providers of affordable housing and services, and is a leader in addressing the needs of low-income persons with special needs. In February 2008, the Jacksonville Housing Commission held a strategic planning session and adopted a set of priorities which included focusing the City’s resources on providing assistance to very low-income families and the City fully expects that Ability Housing will play a key role in the implementation of these strategic objectives.”

-Wight Greger, City of Jacksonville, Housing and Neighborhoods

  • bring positive change to neighborhoods
  • preserve existing affordable housing
  • improve neighborhood property values
  • reduce crime and blight
  • enhance the quality of life of community residents
  • prevent homelessness
  • provide cost savings and improved outcomes to City and State entities serving our community
